Didn't we just go through this? (Matthew 1-2)

I know, Christmas was just a little over 2 weeks ago, why do we need to cover it again.  Yet, Jesus' birth is important on several levels.  I'm just going to pick out one today.

Jesus' birth was important because it shows God's faithfulness.  Many of us skim through the first set of verses in Matthew because it's a lot of boring names of people we have no clue about.  I think I can assume most of us perk up when we read David's name, we know who he is.  If we have good memories, we might perk up at Boaz's name (especially since we're going through Ruth in church).  But toward the end, who are these guys?  They are the decendents God used to keep his promise to Abraham and David, because it would be through these two people that God promised a great deliverer.

Throughout the rest of Matthew 1-2, we read at least one prophecy of God being fulfilled in every event Matthew records.  I think the Spirit inspired it this way so we would keep one thing in mind, that God is faithful.  Remember these things when you're going through a rough time, God is still faithful.
